Patagonia Chile 2017: Winter Training Hike – Stanley Park

Patagonia Chile 2017: Winter Training Hike – Stanley Park

With snow and ice still sticking around on our planned trails we went where the snow wan`t. Our backup was the venerable Stanley Park. We backpacked the seawall with some people giving us strange looks but occasionally some people surmised that we were training for something. We’ve been getting many people interested in what we’re doing so hopefully armed with our S2P brochure they have made a donation to the project. Partly around the seawall a second time we had enough and hiked the softer earthed trails amid trees and less people. The group is getting used to pumping out 20 km hikes more and more each time so I think we’ll be in great shape for our Chilean trails.   [gallery_bank type=”images” format=”masonry” title=”false” desc=”false” responsive=”true” display=”all” sort_by=”pic_name” special_effect=”grayscale” animation_effect=”bounce” album_title=”true”...

Patagonia Chile 2017: Winter Training Hike – Burnaby Lake

Patagonia Chile 2017: Winter Training Hike – Burnaby Lake

With the recent heavy rains and warmer temperatures we were hoping for a training hike without icy trails but it wasn’t the case. Oh well, we are Street2Peaker’s so we take what we are given and get on with it. These 14 youth did a incredible job of backpacking two loops of Burnaby Lake (21 km’s today) with trail conditions that can be tough to walk on.       [gallery_bank type=”images” format=”masonry” title=”false” desc=”false” responsive=”true” display=”all” sort_by=”pic_name” special_effect=”grayscale” animation_effect=”bounce” album_title=”true”...

Patagonia Chile 2017: Winter Training Hike – Pacific Spirit Park

Thank you to the Street2Peak students for showing up today with the desire to continue their Chile training. With cold-ish temperatures and many sections of ice we had a part road, part trail hike in Pacific Spirit Park and through the University of British Columbia campus. As we have just passed the 2 month mark to our departure for our Torres del Paine National Park backpack we now are focusing on final conditioning and gear testing. Thanks to Brandon and Amber for helping out the Streetfront “boys” with today’s hike. Patagonia Chile 2017: Training Hike – Cheakamus Lake

Today was the last of our summer training hikes for the Chile 2017 adventure. We concluded with a hike on the Cheakamus Lake trail to Singing Creek. This beautiful turquoise lake lies below Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. Well done team and thanks to Gord and Crystal for their assistance.         [gallery_bank type=”images” format=”masonry” title=”false” desc=”false” responsive=”true” display=”all” sort_by=”pic_name” special_effect=”grayscale” animation_effect=”bounce” album_title=”false”...
